Birthday Eve

Amelia's 2nd birthday was a protracted, multi-day celebration, primarily due to coincidence. It started with a birthday eve celebration. That's a thing, right?

My Ninang Rose generously gifted us with an overnight stay at the Manila Sofitel. The day before Amelia's birthday, we went to the hotel in the afternoon to get a swim sesh in before the scheduled family dinner at the hotel's Spiral restaurant.

The spread at Spiral is arguably the best buffet in Manila. It's ridiculous in its variety of well-made, well-presented food. You will never taste everything. You probably won't even be able to try an item from every section because there are so many sections, which include Japanese, Indian, Chinese, French, Italian, Brazilian stations. There's a cheese room, a bread buffet, fruit station, salad station, and a dessert section that's a buffet in itself.

The next day was Amelia's 2nd birthday. We brunched at Spiral again (buffet again!) and finished off the meal with handmade ube ice cream. She would not blow the candle and wouldn't even allow us to light it. I can't believe I brought this soy candle all the way from San Francisco to NOT be lit.
